A lot of local people have expressed an interest in having a walking group in the community. The walking group would give people an opportunity to get out and get fit with the company of other people. The DDCDA has been asked to publicise the first few meetings of a walking group with the intention that those interested will continue to keep in contact and to meet regularly.
Two key walks have been identified as suitable for a walking group;
Walk 1: From Doohamlet Cross, turn toward Lough Egish, through Martin's Cross and turn left for Oghill and on to Clareoghill. At Corderryduff turn left down toward the Mile Hill Road. At the Mile Hill Road turn left back to Martin's Cross and turn back toward Doohamlet Cross. This walk is approximately 4 miles in length and will take about 1 hour.
Walk 2: From Doohamlet Cross travel up the Clonaneor Road and Maggie Bryan's Brae. Turn right toward Garradevlin, then take a left turn toward the Ballybay - Cremartin Road. Turn left on this road and at HughJoe's cross turn left again to travel back to Doohamlet Cross. This walk is approximately 4 miles long and will take about 1 hour.
Both walks involve steep hills.
A first meeting of the walking group has been organised for 8pm on Friday, 22nd April. Meet at Doohamlet Cross and remember to wear high visibility clothing, suitable footwear and bring raingear if the weather looks bad. Everyone is welcome. The DDCDA wishes all those interested in forming a walking group the best of luck!
