About Us

Doohamlet district is a small village and surrounding hinterland in the heart of County Monaghan. It comprises about 325 houses with about 1,000 residents.

The Doohamlet and District Community Development Association (DDCDA) was founded in 2006 when a group of local people came together to start facilitating progress and change for the better in the area. With the help of Monaghan Community Network, the group was encouraged and taught how to hold meetings, record minutes, set out a constitution and manage finances in a transparent and organised manner. This valuable support has facilitated the group in securing funding and working toward larger goals.

The first meeting of the group took place on 26th May 2006. Anne Malone, a driving force behind the group, was elected as the first Chairperson.

The Association acknowledges that for a small community such as Doohamlet there are already a lot of vibrant clubs in the area doing tremendous work in a voluntary capacity with young and old, male and female, delivering social, sprirtual, educational and sporting activities. However, a strong umbrella group made up of representatives of these groups and others not affilliated to any clubs could tegether build a stronger community and assist the area to develop for the benefit of all local people.

The group is now involved in a number of projects, information on which is available on our Projects page. The group has been successful in securing funding for it's in own projects and in assisting other local groups in the area to secure funding for specific projects.  Thanks to the Peace III project, the group is closely affiliated to the majority of groups and associations in the area under the banner All Together Forever, including;
Jubilee Hall
IFA
Group Water Scheme
Doohamlet Daycare
Tidy Village Association
O Neills GAA Club
Doohamlet Ladies GAA
Bowls
Gun Club
Youth Club
All Saints National School
