PEACE 111 Showcase

P J Harte and Anne Malone attended the final Showcase event of PEACE 111 Phase 1 on Tuesday 31 May 2011. The hall was available to all thirty projects to display a synopsis of peace building events undertaken by their project over the last 20 months. Approx 20 projects were represented and around 50 people in attendance.

We displayed our Doohamlet Alltogether Forever banner and had a picture slide show running on our acquired PEACE 111 laptop. I believe we may have been the only community group present who hadn’t access to some clerical backup or paid worker. Catriona Maguire opened the event and David Fallon spoke on behalf of the council. Presentations were made by St Macartans college, Clones Library, Commuity Forum and Artswell on their experiences with the projects – all very positive.

After mingling with participants and a light lunch proceedings ended at 1.15pm. Next Phase of funding may become available in September

Peace III Closing Event

Many thanks to everyone who attended the Peace III closing event in the Golden Jubilee Hall on Tuesday, 29th March 2011. Over 70 people attended, which included many school children and youth club members.

Doohamlet National School gave an excellent musical recital using the instruments hired through the Peace III project. Everyone was very impressed at how well everyone could play their instruments despite only having started learning to play. The youth club had a stand displaying photos and crafts from Peace III events.

Chairperson of the DDCDA PJ Harte welcomed everyone to the hall. Anne Malone gave a very detailed presentation of the background, management and events held as part of the Peace III project. Eileen McMeel was available to answer any questions. A slideshow of photos of events held over the course of the project was shown. Pauline Gilsenan expressed her thanks on behalf of the youth club for all of the opportunities Peace III had presented, while Principal Margaret McQuillan thanked the Peace III project and the project administrators for all it had done for Doohamlet National School.

Ms Caitriona Maguire, who attended on behalf of Monaghan County Council, expressed her admiration for all that was achieved by the Doohamlet Community throughout the project and noted how efficiently the project had been managed by the DDCDA.

A presentation of flowers and a token gift were made on behalf of the community to Anne Malone and Eileen McMeel to acknowledge the tireless work they had put in to managing the project over the past 18 months.

The event concluded with light refreshments served - thanks to Majella McArdle, Mary B O Neill, Anne Malone, Marion Irwin among others for organising!

The event will recount all of the events that took part over the past 18 months within the Doohamlet "All Together Forever" project, funded by Peace III. €50,000 was secured from Peace III to build positive relations at local level - the Doohamlet District Community Development Association came together with 9 other local project partners to run the "All Together Forever" project.

Under the project a wide range of events were held and were open to all members of the community to attend.
Events included;
- Opening Launch
- Trips to the Ploughing Championships
- Community Christmas Events in 2009 and 2010

In addition to the community events, funding was also made available for a major refurbishment project in the Community Hall and a laptop was acquired for use by the Community.

We now invite everyone in the Community to a closing event to mark the Peace III "All Together Forever" project. Santa's Visit to Doohamlet

Santa visited Doohamlet on the 6th December 2009 to tun on our Christmas Tree Lights. Almost all of the children from the area attended to welcome Santa, who arrived on that cold, wet night. Santa gave out sweet to everyone before we all went back to Connolly's Bar and Lounge for some much needed tea and sandwiches.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in erecting the Christmas Tree, wiring the lights, managing traffic, providing the PA system, providing the venue and electricity and organising the catering. Santa's visit was organised as part of the Peace III project.

Peace III Launch, October 2009

In 2009 the DDCDA with all of their project partners were successful in acquiring a €50,000 grant for the purposes of improving community relations in the Doohamlet Area. This is a major boost to our community and will help to bring all of the people in our area together.
The Peace III project was launched at an event in the Golden Jubilee Hall where all of the project partners came together and displayed information about their group. Stands included All Saint National School, the Group Water Scheme, Bowls, Gun Club, Youth Club, Golden Jubilee Hall, O Neills GAA club, Ladies Football Club, DDCDA and Doohamlet Daycare.
There was a great turnout on the day - many thanks to the Clontibret Pipe Band who provided a very dramatic entrance to all of our dignitaries on the day, which included Monaghan County Mayor Heather Humphries. The Doohamlet Youth Club enacted a dramatic piece and our local Scor na nOg winner treated us with his winning performance. A magician and face painter kept children occupied, while tea, sandwiches, chips and sausages were freely available for everyone who attended.
