Lake Project Feasibility Report

The DDCDA has just had a Feasibility Study undertaken for the development and ongoing maintenance of a public access and community recreation facility at Tonyscallan Lake. The scope of the project also included identifing the fishing and wildlife potential of the lake and explored the possibility of linking the village and adjoining river into the project to encourage other recreational activities and enhance tourism in the area.

The feasibility report was part financed by Cavan-Monaghan Leader under the Rural Development Programme (Cavan-Monaghan LEADER is a joint venture between Breffni Integrated Ltd. and Monaghan Integrated Development Ltd. for the delivery of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 in counties Cavan and Monaghan.) The DDCDA would like to acknowledge the assistance of Cavan-Monaghan LEADER, the Minister and Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, the EU and EAFRD in part-funding this study.

As recommended in the report the next step is to carry out an ecological survey to determine the impact of developing a pedestrian walkway along the west side of the lake or across the marshland adjacent to the lake. The proposed ecology study will highlight any potential negative impacts relating to the construction of pathways through the marshy and lakeside habitats. It will also identify the animal population/plants/flowers native to the area.

An application for funding to cover the cost of this ecology study is currently pending with Monaghan Co Co under their Community Development Fund 2011.

The feasibility study is available to view on our downloads page.
