Christmas "Thank You"

The DDCDA wishes to thank everyone who was involved in organising the village Christmas Tree and helping with Santa's visit on the 11th December 2011. This was the first year the DDCDA fully funded the event, and it would not have been possible without the support of so many people in our community.

To give a small idea of the number of people involved in the Christmas event, we've listed a few names below - this list is by no means exhaustive and many more people were involved behind the scenes than can be named. Huge apologies if we have left anyone out!

Thank you to Eamonn Connolly for once again providing the location for the tree at the Crossroads. PJ Harte organised the Christmas Tree, with the help of Jim Connolly. Thanks to Gerard Connolly for transport services. Patsy Connolly and Sean Comiskey helped to erect the tree and Martin Walshe provided electrical services. Eamonn Coleman helped with the PA system and the ceremony on the day. Brendan Harte was always available to make sure things ran smoothly.

Special thank you to Gerry Malone for getting in touch with Santa and making sure he was there on the day. John Gilsenan safely drove Santa to the crossroads shop, where Wayne, Rebecca and Megan did a great job making sure all of the children got a small present from Santa. Lots of marshalls and helpers were available to make sure everyone was safe and traffic was controlled.

Santa was very well received by about 100 children on that very cold Sunday afternoon, where he used his magic to turn on the Christmas Tree lights after a big countdown.

Once the lights were turned on and Santa had met the children, Alexis and Marian very kindly welcomed everyone back to Connolly's Bar and Lounge for tea and refreshments. Thanks to the DDCDA for making scones, sandwiches and (Majella's legendary) cake.

This years' event was a big success and the DDCDA want to thank everyone who was involved. It really showed what our community is capable of when it works together.
